Kilian Hennessy’s inspiration: Imperial Tea is a fresh and modern homage to jasmine tea, which is brewed, served, and enjoyed as part of one of China’s most refined traditional tea rituals.

For our founder, Kilian Hennessy, travel is always synonymous with surprises, new encounters, and love. This time, the sea breeze carried him to a new land where a rich tea culture has been cultivated for millennia. He witnessed the production of jasmine tea, in which hand-picked white blossoms are layered over fermenting tea to infuse it with their oils. He watched as jasmine tea with floating blossoms was served and savored it in a moment of timelessness and elegance that he wished would never end. One small sip, and all the senses are so enchanted by the jasmine blossoms that space and time lose their meaning.

The perfume: “Imperial Tea” is a pure, linear fragrance centered around a green tea accord, infused with jasmine sambac absolute. Bergamot and laminaria seaweed—a rare ingredient in perfumery that lends a mineral-like and airy balance—wonderfully capture the spray of the sea breeze, while the earthy notes of vetiver oil and musk give the fragrance long-lasting staying power. All the way up to the heavens and back down to earth—jasmine tea is at the heart of a royal ritual that has been practiced in China for millennia.
