This fragrance is reminiscent of a piece of amber resin that Serge Lutens discovered by chance at a bazaar in Marrakesh. It lay forgotten in a thuja wood box and was only rediscovered years later. Its fragrance represents a return to the true identity and authenticity of the raw materials used.

"Amber for the Sultan: this is not an 'oriental' fragrance, but an Arabic one, and – typical of Lutens – it cannot be pigeonholed. I found a scented wax at the bazaar and forgot about it in a wooden box for a long time. However, this amber only became Ambre Sultan after I recomposed its fragrance: to these tarry cistus leaves, which stick to your fingers, I added another component that no one could have imagined at the time: vanilla."
