THE SPECIAL DETAIL FROM HERMÈS
With its diamond-shaped grain, reddish-brown color, and peaty, woody, smoky scent, Volynka leather tells the story of its vegetable tanning. Its incredible robustness is the result of techniques that have been used for thousands of years: oak bark is ground up and animal hides are dipped in birch bark broth. In 2017, this long-lost savoir-faire experienced a revival when rolls of leather were recovered from the hold of a sunken ship and examined by the talented artisans at Hermès.
