Accessibility Statement

Breuninger stands for premium fashion and lifestyle – and for a shopping experience that welcomes all people. Therefore, we continuously improve the digital accessibility of our services to make them barrier-free, intuitive, and comfortable. Below, you will find information on the barrier-free usability of our online sales platform at www.breuninger.com and our app (Breuninger Online Shop).

Functionality of the Breuninger Online Shop

The Breuninger Online Shop is an e-shop for selling goods. Goods, in the sense of this Accessibility Statement, are all products that can be purchased through an online order in the Breuninger Online Shop. Products are presented to you, which can be added to an electronic shopping cart and then ordered and paid for in a binding manner. This website has a header and footer menu. The header menu lists the products we sell by category and can be accessed individually from there. Each product is described on its own detail page with further information on its essential features, delivery or service scope, and total price. From there, it can be added to the electronic shopping cart. Additionally, the electronic shopping cart can be visited via the header menu once you have added at least one product to it. From this cart, the electronic ordering process can be initiated and completed.

Legal Requirements for Accessibility

Our online shop is one of the so-called "services in electronic commerce" and is characterized by an electronic ordering and payment option. Special legal requirements for accessibility apply to the relevant parts of the online shop. In general, our online shop must provide functions and procedures that are tailored to the needs of people with disabilities and enable operability with digital assistive technologies. The functions of our online shop must be:

  • Perceivable
  • Operable
  • Understandable and
  • Robust

Accessibility of the Breuninger Online Shop

Breuninger aligns itself with the four aforementioned principles of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA, in the design and technical implementation of the relevant parts of the online shop. We explain how this is implemented in the online shop as follows:

  • Perceivable content is visually clearly structured and marked in a way that headings, groups, and other layout elements can also be followed with supporting technologies. Font sizes can be scaled, color contrasts meet the requirements, and the display adapts to different screen formats.
  • Operability is enabled through a followable focus guide and the support of central functions via the keyboard. The navigation logic follows a sensible sequence, independent of the input method.
  • Understandability is ensured through unambiguously named control elements, consistent layouts, and linguistically understandable feedback. Interactive components are not exclusively visually encoded but also textually recognizable and technically accessible.
  • Robustness is shown in the use of standard-conforming technologies. Content and functions can be used on various devices and browsers and are compatible with common assistive technologies like screen readers. The aforementioned principles are taken into account at Breuninger during the product development of our online shop. Relevant requirements are incorporated into both the design and the technical implementation of digital products related to our online shop. As part of our collaborative efforts, there is an exchange of expertise on barrier-free design and development. In this process, existing experiences and insights are contributed across teams. To verify barrier-free accessibility, Breuninger employs both automated and manual procedures. The results of these tests are documented and integrated into the development process. For evaluating barrier-related requirements, internal resources with experience in handling assistive technologies are involved. Additionally, for specific questions, external specialist institutions are also engaged.
