A tuxedo consists of a tuxedo jacket, tuxedo trousers and a tuxedo shirt. The color of a classic tuxedo jacket is black or dark blue. Both the single-breasted and double-breasted tuxedo jackets do not have a back vent. Furthermore, the classic single-breasted version has only one closing button. Modern tuxedo variants can also have two closing buttons, but in company only the upper one is always closed. A classic black tuxedo is an alternative to the classic men's suit for festive occasions.
The lapel collar of the tuxedo jackets is often trimmed with silk faille or silk satin. The silk trim of the lapel is continued on the tuxedo trousers at the outer leg seam, emphasizing the elegant touch of the tuxedo. The special feature of the tuxedo trousers is that they do not have a belt loop, but are held in place with suspenders buttoned to the waistband or an internal waistband. The tuxedo shirt is usually white and has a classic turn-down collar, as well as a concealed button placket. Traditionally, the tuxedo is combined with a bow tie or bow. A pocket square in the same color as the shirt is usually worn in the breast pocket of the tuxedo jacket.
Smooth, polished patent leather shoes (slip-ons or lace-up shoes) can be worn with a tuxedo.
